I contemplated, daydreamed, brainstormed, and checked Instagram…
Everything but actually write this.
Resistance.
That negative internal force that gets in the way of you pursuing your dreams.
You know exactly what project you dream of starting, the one you feel is your life’s calling—but the mix of procrastination, self-doubt, and anxiety get in the way.
So no pages of the dream book are written, no photographs of the renowned travel photographer are taken, and no episodes of the great podcast are released.
How can starting to write the book that you dreamed of be a 10-step walk to your desk, a terrible rough draft that takes 5 minutes to write, but yet there is something internal stopping you from starting it?
Yeah, that’s resistance.
Award-winning author Steven Pressfield wrote a great book on what it is, how to recognize it, and how to beat it.
And this post is just that: me overcoming resistance, doing the work that it feels like I’m meant to do (starting a blog), and in the process hopefully inspiring others to do the same.
Shout out to Ant for inspiring me to get this ball rolling from the last convo that we had.

Resistance…..what causes it? What is built to start the resistance in your mind? What’s the force that’s pushing back on doing what we’re called?
Regardless of my questions, super proud to see you pushing back against the resistance. Keep inspiring dawg!

Great Questions! I think for me it’s a combination of two things: fear and the “I’ll do it tomorrow” logic of procrastination.
For the projects that I feel called to do, I think that starting them and making them public might change how people view me, and change can be scary. As a chronic people pleaser, I do care about what others think of me. So what if the change in how others view me is negative?
It’s easier to leave a project in the drafts so it won’t flop, overexpose my true self, or be seen as “weird.” This I am trying to get past.
Then, on the other hand, I can let my optimism of “nahhhh there’s def a better time for me to work on this thing” happen ALOT. For some it works, but I might have to stop giving myself the benefit of the doubt and just start stuff—even when all the planets won’t align for some reason.
